Suriname

It is 9:57 pm in Suriname.  Raining like crazy and yes more humid than Houston.  I am sitting along the Suriname River.  It is about 450 km long and draining the highlands.  Wide where I am at - down well within the tidal influenced portion of the stream.  River is about 1 km wide here probably and the color of milk chocolate.

They innaugurate a new president on next Thursday.  Chavez is coming to help celebrate.  Apparently the guy is accused of something called the December 14, the murder of 14 people back in December of 1980.  So the newly elected president is actually on trial for murdering 14 people like 30 years ago.  You can say what you will about what a joke our political system is but at least our elected officials aren't accused of murdering 14 people.
